The day began at 5am! (now I remember why I don’t normally get involved in this sport)! After a few towing and navigation problems we finally arrived in Makersfield at 8am.

The first stage was more scary thanks to a spectacular pirouette by George on the slippery surface, but I kept hold of the clipboard and called the corners and splits as best I could – although using my (pink) stopwatch at the same time proved too much.

Stage 2 George resisted twirling and we improved our time.

Stage 3 and he was again spinning around – this time with another car coming over the brow of a hill straight towards us – not sure if this is correct co-driver behaviour but I put my hands over my eyes! - fortunately when I removed them the car had gone.

Stage 4 again we improved and I started to enjoy it (don’t tell George)

Stages 5;6;7;8;9 and 10 became a blur as we whizzed round the circuit.

Due to poor light 11 and 12 were cancelled – so we had finished!! My first finish – my only other event at Abingdon we ran into a kerb at speed, broke a few car parts and so ended our day.

Will I go rallying again? Wait and see……
